In many states, especially in the south, the minimum wage is $7.25. I actually think $17 / hr for minimum wage is pretty good but $7.25 is crazy. If you google “typical minimum wage jobs” the very first one listed is childcare workers, followed by waiter, cashier, hotel housekeeper. Obviously there’s a huge difference between a minimum wage childcare worker and an educated, experienced nanny. Employers and nannies must be able to discern appropriate pay for each individual.
