Caregiver. I would focus on finding someone with elder care experience. My parents have caregivers and all of their caregivers are moms or grandmas who probably have the skills to provide child care. Elder care is a different skill set that not everyone has.
Yup, contrary to what the nannies on this board think, child care takes zero skill set, and you will definitely find someone who does elder care who would be willing to provide child care. Other way around, you won’t, but your elder care provider will probably be better than any nanny you find. Signed, From personal experience
I work with special needs children. I also have experience with dementia care and managing insulin and other medications while doing elderly care. However, there's a reason I stated that the parent staying home needs to decide what they want to do. You are very unlikely to find someone experienced with both who wants to do both. More than likely, you'll find someone inexperienced with one who is willing to try or someone expereinced with both who only wants one. Better to decide where the person at home wants to devote their attention, then they can hire for the other dependent.
PP here. I don't disagree with you. But I think someone who provides elder care and has that skill set and is interested in getting more hours with the same family (no commute, all that jazz) would be up for doing the childcare. And with the right personality could be competent. Personally I'd love that set-up (former childcare worker and elder advocate in past jobs) because I'd like the variety. Totally different types of activities.
