I started working at 14 as a summer youth counselor & I did that until I was 20. I’ve been a nanny since the age of 16, a live in since 19 1/2, I’ve been a gymnastics coach on the side for a few years now, as well as a yoga teacher. I teach yoga now along side of begin a nanny & my business is quite successful. I’ve never been a tutor or an academic coach teacher. I continuously had two jobs from the age of fourteen until nineteen. When someone wants to work hard, they can.
You haven't been a nanny since 16. You were in high school.
Are part time nannies not a thing in DC? I maintained two jobs in high school as a junior & a senior. Being a summer youth counselor during the day & being able to go home at night allows for a SECOND JOB. The family I nannied for from 16-19 still provides a reference for me as of today. I was responsible for making their children breakfast, driving them to and from school, taking them to gymnastics & cub scouts & I spent many an overnight at their home providing baths & bedtime stories. I also cared for their dogs & learned how to be a household manager as my position grew to full time when the pandemic hit (I worked for a doctor & her husband was a Sargent major). Nanny agencies are typically quite happy with my high school experience & it landed me my first live in position in Colorado in 2020 at 12$ an hour with a car & my own guest house. Both of those families are the reason I seeked advice from this forum - I’ve never had a bad nanny family. I wanted other opinions. I imagine in person that you aren’t very kind & you clearly lack empathy, as well as an understanding of the depth of the childcare job sphere & the variety of jobs that are available as different families have different needs.
