You may have a difficult time getting $32/hr, unless it's for multiple children. I was a nanny in this area for several years and never saw listings anywhere close to that. [/quote]

Yes, I definitely realize that. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is what the DC equivalent of my SF rate would be. Also, do parents of infants/toddlers require their nannies to drive kids to activities if in DC (during non covid times) or is walking and public transit a good option for them? I don't drive and never needed to in San Francisco. It was actually easier not to drive.[/quote]

It depends on where you are in DC. Many neighborhoods are super walkable and families don't expect the nanny to ever drive. Other neighborhoods (e.g. most of Chevy Chase DC, parts of Forest Hills etc.) will require driving or you'll be pretty limited on what you can do or end up hauling strollers on crowded city buses (not fun).

I would agree, it depends on the neighborhood. We lived in Capitol Hill and Alexandria and our nanny never drives our kids anywhere--it's not part of her contract and there is a sufficient amount of stuff she can walk to (park, playground, rec center, library). Pre covid, she'd do an occasional outing to the zoo, etc. But these were rare because of the ages and logistics on public transport. Another thing I'd flag is that I'm not sure how willing you'd find an employer to be off the books. A lot of people have government jobs here or will in the future so are adamant about doing things on the books. We've done nanny shares and pretty much everyone we interviewed with felt this way. We were adamant any nanny we hired be paid on the books. YMMV. I would say the rate you quoted off the books--$25/hour--is what you could charge in DC. [/quote]
