We live in Fairfax and am considering a nanny for my 3 children-ages 4, 2, and 6 months. The 3 year old attends preschool 3 days a week. The 2 year old will start preschool in the fall. We would ask the nanny to help with preschool transportation but largely s/he will have the 2 year old and baby to care for since the oldest will be in school. We will provide the car for the nanny. What is a fair hourly rate? This is all new to us.
Do you want 5 days or 3 because the preschooler will be around for 2 weekdays. The toddler doesn't start until 9 months from now and as previously mentioned there are days with out school. I'd go with $25 because you're going to get a much better applicant pool. 3 kids are a lot -- as you know and you want someone good & reliable. It's a hard job physically and emotionally and you want someone who doesn't feel underpaid. Childcare isn't the place to cut corners.
