Hiking outside is very low risk OP. I would be ok with my Nanny doing outside activities like this.
Actually, that may not be entirely accurate. The issue is getting to and from the trailhead. Where I live, the best trails are about an hour or more drive away. It doesn't make a lot of sense to drive separately, both due to gas costs/ parking fees, and also many of the best trails have very limited parking. Not to mention that the drive is more entertaining with a friend. But if nanny is carpooling to and from the trailhead, spending perhaps 2-3 hours roundtrip in the car with another person or two, THAT is problematic.
Are you going to pay her for her time to stay away from other people? If not, sit down.
LOL I'm a nanny and although I was an avid hiker prior to Covid, I literally haven't been once since early March precisely because of this issue. I don't feel comfortable hiking alone, so now I ride my bike (mask on, alone) for exercise instead. No, my employers do not pay me to social distance; that is ridiculous. I actually CARE about keeping myself and those close to me (like my nanny family) safe. OP, it sounds like you need to find a nanny who takes social distancing more seriously. A lot of people are hiring nannies because they don't want the level of exposure presented by daycare, but if your nanny is going out with friends and not being careful on the weekends, that level of exposure isn't much better than daycare!
