We have cameras. Several of them. Nothing hidden. Very visible. We had an incident where we had a 'predator' enter our house while I was asleep and my daughter was with her grandparents. He was in the house for 4 minutes before he opened my bedroom door and saw me asleep. I awoke and was confused. Realized he wasn't my mother-in-law's friend and jumped up 10 seconds after he closed the door and ran out. I called police, but had no evidence to nab him but my description and later a grainy outdoor cam pic. He could have stolen anything but didn't. We had my daughter's 1st Birthday party the day before. Advertisements (balloons at the mailbox, other decorations made us a target. After that, cameras everywhere. We don't monitor them....no micromanaging, but if something would happen we have a reasonable chance of detecting how it happened. To monitor the cams would be a full-time job and no one in their right mind would do it. Cameras protect ALL parties. After the incident we told our nanny we'd be adding the cameras, she was 'fine' with it 'understood', and now is completely comfortable. She's been with us for 4 years now. Hidden cameras are not kosher in my opinion. If you don't trust the nanny, don't hire her. Honesty is key. We never caught the guy (in late 50's and looked like an upscale 'dad' type. We live in a fairly upscale neighboorhood by a prestigious private school. We had a pic from an outdoor camera in papers, but he was NEVER CAUGHT! If you are a nanny and there are cameras in the house, speak to your employers, there may be a reason other than you.
