Cooking (beyond the kid basics) and cleaning (beyond just picking up after the kids) typically aren't nanny duties anyway.
+1. You have to put your children’s welfare first.
This is OP and I totally agree, and safety and being warm/nurturing are my top two priorities for our new nanny. However, my previous nanny went well above and beyond (without us asking) and always did all of our laundry, was immaculate at cleaning up while the younger ones are sleeping, would stop by the grocery store to grab things when we ran out without having to be asked, etc. So I know these people exist... just not sure I will find one in the time range I have to look.
Wow! Your last nanny sounds amazing! And like she set the bar too high for any future nannies. She was doing far too much housework. I went above and beyond during naptime on my first nanny job and I’ll never do it again. Parents come to expect anything you found time to do on days with long naps, then start asking for more chores and commenting when they’re not completed. It got to the point that I was doing four hours of chores in a seven hour shift. MB seemed surprised to find me folding laundry at the kitchen table while NK ate her lunch, but she would leave me a weekend’s worth of clean laundry in a pile every Monday. You should focus on finding someone who actively engages with children, shows up for work every day and cares about supporting your parenting methods.
