Okay...those people who are making $20/hour can't afford a nanny. Just because you have children doesn't mean you're entitled to a private in home caregiver. There are choices here. You could choose not have children if you can't afford care (which it seems like many people don't bother to take into consideration). You could move to be near family if that's an option for you or your partner. You could find an in home daycare. You could work with your insurance company to find an aide if your child has serious medical needs (as this child does).

Saying "grow up and find your own jobs" is ridiculous. The family who employs OP doesn't want to pay her to retain her services so offered her a referral. As a professional, she followed up with this and found out that their expectations were completely out of line with her salary, her responsibilities, and her current job. She did absolutely nothing wrong here. Just because they have a sick child doesn't mean that they can expect a stranger to show up and work for a sub minimum wage. They sound manipulative and so does her boss. It's shameful to try and use their personal misfortune to try and guilt her into taking a job that will leave her short on her own bills. If anything, I would charge more money to take care of a sick child who will likely have more needs than is typical. This job sounds very stressful and I would personally rather take the financial hit than enter into this situation.[/quote]
