I have contacted all of the AP agencies just to be told our location is too remote. Although we meet all the requirements for placement, none of the agencies that cover Alaska will assist in matching an AP. What recourse do we have? We just sent a letter to our State Senators office and will follow up with a phone call but I wanted to see if there was any other advice out there?
If the agencies won’t place an AP, contact a national nanny placement agency. I’d suggest looking for someone from the Maine/Vermont/New Hampshire area, northern Minnesota/Wisconsin, anywhere other than city in North Dakota, or in the Rockies. You want someone familiar with depths of 1 foot or more of snow on a regular basis, and that life doesn’t stop when snow flies. Personally, I hate the cold, but I have looked at a few positions in Alaska, just because I know how to handle the weather and when to call it quits.
