Maternity leave and the new baby is always a huge adjustment for everyone. Nanny here and as long as you have guaranteed hours (being paid from this time to this time on these days) your employer can give you as erratic schedule as she chooses - those are her hours. As for the disruption to your older child’s schedule, this is absolutely something you need to discuss with her as it is detrimental to her older child. Don’t answer texts after a certain time, OP. Your employer is postpartum and probably up all night with the newborn and is texting you things so she doesn’t forget. A little patience and sympathy will go a long way.
I fully agree with this. ~career nanny
Since this was a vent, I didn't disclose that this has been going on prior to the new baby (hence why I was annoyed). I have been patient with them for quite some time. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand how stress and tired ANY MOM may be with a new born and a toddler. Its not just late text, its last minute text. If I arrive to work at 8AM and you text me at 8:30 and on the calendar (that I take time out to do) says we are leaving at 9AM for an activity, THAT'S A PROBLEM. So please understand my frustration. If it wasn't a share, it wouldn't be a problem but you are being inconsiderate of my time and the other child's who parents also pay me to engage with their child. Bottom line is be considerate and consisitant. I get changes occur but every single day? I addressed this issue in person during a meeting we had 2 months ago. Both parents understood and told me to my face they need to do better and totally agreed with everything I said. A week later it was back to the old ways. Anyone who takes care of multiple children from different families understands how important it is to get the kids on the same schedule and when they're not, the days are rough and I am here for a 11 hours. I'm just tired. Also, I HAVE VOLUNTEERED TO PICK THE KID UP ON MY WAY IN to make life easier so that should show you how much I try to help them out- and yes, I drive them (they provided carseats) so its not like they don't trust me. Thank you everyone for your replies. I feel better today. Happy Friday!
