Because the vast majority of parents who hire nannies want to be with their children whenever they can.
Yes! If you have a day off, why would you not want to spend it with your kids? And if you hardly work or don’t work at all, why even have a nanny? I have felt so bad for some of the parents I’ve worked for because they hate leaving their kids every day. They would be so happy when they had a day off, too!
Some parents need time to do things without kids in tow... They have doctor and dentist appointments, go to the gym, see a lawyer, etc. It’s not also appropriate or a good idea to take kids to everything.
+1. To the PPs above, way to shame parents. There are about 1000 things on my to-do list that I unfortunately can’t take kids to. A day off with childcare would be a welcome opportunity, and not because I don’t love my children
I'm the one with the part time, seasonal job. Yesterday, I volunteered at my two oldest children's school for the morning, and had lunch with them. My nanny took the 4 year old to preschool, and then went to a gym class with the 3 year old. Then they picked up the 4 year old and came home for quiet time. Then, I came home and did our taxes. The nanny went to pick up the older ones while I played with the little ones. Then I started dinner while the nanny hung out with all four for a little while. Then she went home, and we had family time the rest of the evening. Every day is different, but having a nanny means I always have dedicated time available to work when I am working, and when I'm not, I can do any variety of things for the kids or myself without some huge logistical difficulty.
