Our nanny has been with us for almost 2 years and we trust her a lot. She is young though (26) and just got her driver's license. She lives in Maryland, so had to go through hours of in person driving with a certified instructor. She wants to drive our daughter around instead of taking the bus like they do now. What is a reasonable amount of time to make her wait? What are reasonable restrictions on driving? I want to make it easier for her, but I also want to be safe with a new driver.
I am the same age as your nanny. I stated driving my charge around in my boss' car, 2 or 3 months after passing my test, but it was my boss' idea not mine. We don't go very far and since the car is not always available, we don't got out in the car too often either. I am still learning, but I'm comfortable in traffic and a very cautious driver. We haven't had a single incident. The driving test is incredibly basic, and passing it does not mean the person is a competent driver. I'd ask her to practice, with your car and without your child, if she doesn't own a car. After some time you should do a drive test and really watch her driving.
