Do people pay extra when your child has a play date (serious question since mine is only 18 months and not having play dates). If your five year old wants a play date with a friend, do you pay the nanny more to watch two kids? I don't disagree with paying the nanny for the time in this situation but if the kid is older (5-8) and your kid is a similar age, seems more like a play date (hence the question above). Other kid is 10 months, clearly not a playdate
If I arrange a playdate, it's either a trial (so that I know if it's workable for future) or ongoing (in which case, I know how much work is involved). I don't do playdates that the parents set up, they do them. The only time I am willing to do a playdate that they set up is when we've been trying to find a date with whom we used to do playdates, and the nanny or parent talked to my employer rather than me. Otherwise, nope, set it up and supervise yourself. I'm not averse to watching kids for my employers' friends and family, but I reserve the following rights: I am not obligated until I agree; unless it's an emergency, I will meet the kid(s) and parent(s) first; I will be paid at a rate I set (no negotiation, based on meeting them); I will use the same discipline and rules with all of the children.
