My opinion is if someone has $250 wine glasses, they don't leave them lying around in the sink.  They would get washed and put away right after use, to avoid the risk of them getting broken.

I think these people were setting you up to fail.  I think you should get out of there as soon as possible.  If you stay, remember, they have just shown you their true colors and this will continue.

I have nannied for 3 families so far in my career.  I have broken glasses at two homes.  I half melted a plastic mixing bowl in the other home.   I scratched the floor in my current family's new home when I was petsitting while they were on vacation and I moved the litter box to sweep.  There is a hole in the cushion of their $4,000 couch from that time the dog somehow got his collar stuck to the couch and I couldn't get the dogs collar off while he was stuck to the couch and I finally ended up cutting the couch cushion because the dog was choking.

None of those families charged me for any of that.
