I'd do it and save up some cash for a few month. They're also paying room and board right? And half the hours they need are sleeping, right? You'd be able to save a lot over 6 months and the move on with a nest egg.
6 months? When I take a job (I'm not op) I take it for the long term. My first nanny job was 10 years, second was 15, I'm now on my 3rd nanny job and it's 5 years and counting. But hey I am paid very well for my job, I don't need to bounce around every few months for a "nest egg".
I know it is derailing this thread, but I am curious about this. Back when you first started with each of these families, did you expect you would be with them for that long? As for my situation, I started with two families back in the summer of 2014. With both, it was just supposed to be one or two days a week of babysitting. But it has grown and grown and grown. Back when I first started with my two families, I thought it would last 4 - 6 months. Now here we are closing in on three years together and I think the families would like to keep me until the kids have drivers licenses.
I knew they would be at least 5 years. I am hired at the birth of a child, though I have a yearly contract, I choose my families on long term. So I am there til kindergarten, at least. Like in any career field, it's a mix of experience, knowledge management, longevity, creativity, education and outlook.
