I think you're making a bigger deal out of this than you need to. As long as they're responsive when you remind them, I'd live with it if you're otherwise happy. I'm a scatter brain but I try hard and hope my nanny doesn't hold it against me. I have an alarm set on my phone to remind me to pay her. Today it went off, I calculated the amount (varies slightly each week), walked downstairs, and immediately forgot. Chatted with her for 10 minutes about the kids and it was only as she was walking out the door that I remembered. I apologized and paid her. Another time she had to remind me. I felt terrible but it happens! I hope we have a relationship that allows some slack.
She resents you a little bit every time, even if she is too professional to show it. It is embarrassing to have to ask to be paid when I'm walking out the door from work while speaking to my boss - how can you forget?! I'm right in front of you. If you like this nanny please take my advice seriously: set your alarm for the morning of payday, write her check before she arrives, and have it in an envelope for her or just give it to her then. It will mean a lot to her.
I agree with this 100%. Your nanny does resent you every time You forget to pay her or force her to ask for her paycheck. You are telling her that she is not important to you and her life away from your child means very little to you. Do not let yourself forget.
Also strongly agree with this. I have absolutely wonderful employers in almost every way except they have a tendency to show up late and they forget to pay me. It's embarrassing having to ask for my check because I earned it yet I feel like I'm asking you to give me something or like you're doing me a favor. I DO resent them a little each time and it reminds me that I am only a solution to their childcare needs, not someone they actually care about or respect. I don't forget to show up to work, don't forget to pay me.
