I would also worry about a diabetic caring for children alone unless it had been under control for a long time. And, a background check only shows proven court involved issues, not minor things that could put your kid at risk. There is nothing wrong with a family asking questions given it is their child's safety and welfare involved. My husband has a job where he had to have an investigation. What kind of benefits and pension are offered? Presumably he knew before he applied he'd be required to submit to that line of questioning and would expect it from every company or government office in the same line of work he does. Nannying isn't like that. I've literally never been asked to do a background check. The only medical questions have been related to whether or not I have kids (and why not and I'm happy to explain my infertility. Most of the moms I've worked for have had ivf so they get it.)[/quote] A parent with common sense does a background check. I'd have to wonder about a family who doesn't do one in less they know the last family you worked for. I would never ask why you didn't have kids in less you brought it up. One would assume you want kids and couldn't and didn't want to adopt. At my last job I did a full background test, urine, and blood test. No big deal. My husband doesn't get a pension, most people don't anymore. He gets two weeks leave and no health insurance. A family has the right to know their child will be safe with you. If you refuse a basic background check and lifestyle questions, I'd see a very big red flag.[/quote]
