Nanny question: I am pregnant and have three young children. My nanny has just asked me to take two vacations - 10 days off when I am 6.5 months pregnant, and another 10 days when I am 8 months pregnant. Do I have to give her these days off, regardless of the impact? I never specified in her contract when she should take days off, so my gut feeling is yes, but with a regular job you wouldn't take time off right before a product launch, for example, as it would look unprofessional. One vacation is to a country rampant with Zika. Thoughts?
No. Nannies put in a vacation request and work with their employers for a mutually agreeable week. Third trimester, back to school, newborn trim frames all are a No. Btw, 20 days of paid time off is not reliable childcare. That would not fly with us and our demanding jobs. I don't need strong babysitters in my house subbing for weld and weeks. Explaining the house, the schedule, getting young children used to them = PITA.
Read the entire thread before commenting. The nanny doesn't get 20 days off, the OP was exaggerating to make people feel sorry for her. 3rd trimester and Newborn are out? So the nanny wouldn't be able to vacation for 6 months? That sounds pretty awful, especially if she has to put up with an MB like you.
