It looks really bad if they're home lounging around while you do the parenting work. Really bad.
Nonsense, not your job to judge your employers. Do what you are paid to do.
It does look bad when it's a constant thing, and they would rather spend time watching t.v than with their kids. I am a nanny and I definitely don't expect to get off early. Most days even when I get off on time I stay and chat with MB/DB. With that said I would feel silly being there when they have family over/they are both home/one is home but is just lounging around. The kids I watch are easy, you can lounge a chill with out me there. I guess it depends on the situation but I hate feeling like they are making me stay just bc they want every $$$ out of me.
Then you should be using that time to get kids' things organized, plan for the next week, tidy up, etc. If you are 'feeling silly" being there then find something productive to do!
I don't need "extra" time everything that I am required to do and more is prioritized during the week. Laundry is done on Tues/Fridays, clothes are rotated seasonally, dishwasher is unloaded/run everyday, toys are sorted by the children and I before naps, lunch boxes are packed and in the fridge while kid1 naps, kids are bathed, fed and ready to go 1.5hrs before parents get home. Aside from deep cleaning which I don't do Everything is in order by 2/3pm Everyday! When my bosses are there I will take kids to the park if they need a break, if they want to play with the kids why would I sit there and watch? I would rather beat the traffic and come in the next day ready to go(after accomplishing my own household stuff) it's a belessing that I have such amazing bosses who I would basically do anything for. All they had to do was pitch in and parent their kids occasionally, it shows that we are all extremely invested in the kids. I feel like part of a team! It's the best feeling ever:)
