I'm not a nanny, but I switched jobs to a nonprofit that told me they were funded for 2 years and surprise! -- they gave me a pink slip a month later. I researched applying for unemployment, and I would have been able to apply based on my previous work credits. To the PPs calling this welfare, that's a narrow-minded view -- unemployment benefits is an insurance that's designed to be a safety need for employees. Insurance exists to protect you in case of rainy days. A nanny suddenly laid off in a city this expensive is the very definition of a rainy day.[/quote]
