The bolded is not so cut and dry as you'd like it to be. Apparently you could afford her last year, but you maxed out your budget to hire her. It's really up to her if you can still afford her this year. If this is the first year you've employed her she may stay on for another year without a raise, but if you're maxed out and start using terms like "can't afford" before her first freaking raise, don't expect her to stick around for more than another year. The reality is, if you can't afford a [deserved] raise after only a year, you in fact cannot afford this nanny. [/quote]
