Stop your nonsense - yes it is illegal.  Do you think the term "minimum wage" is just a suggestion?  Nannies are hourly employees as determined by the government.  If you find a nanny who will work for bread and water happily and willingly it is indeed against the law to pay them with bread and water.

Minimum wage laws only apply to businesses. Do you think I have to pay the kid next door at least $7.50 if it takes him an hour to mow my lawn? I offer $5, he wants $5, transaction done. Same with nannies (aka babysitters.) If Mrs. Nanny want's $150 a week in exchange for childcare then I will pay her that.
