If it were just the newborn I'd say you could find great options (for at least the first 2 years) at the $15-16/hr range.  For all three kids and depending on the hours, scope of the job, your requirements, total package, etc...  you could certainly be in the high teens.  For $20/hr you ought to be able to have your pick of really competent, experienced, candidates.

I know there are families that pay $25/hr + etc... but there are lots who don't and still get great care for their kids.  It depends on what you value and need most.

I agree with this response in part. The rates in your area are lower then in metro DC. Most parents expect more from a childcare provider whose sole job is to enrich their children's lives then they would do themselves. A parent may watch tv and pay bills online while supervising a toddler and and bidding for summer vacation flights on Priceline. If you want a nanny to focus solely on your child, providing early learning opportunities, doing fieldtrips, organizing play groups, etc then you will be paying more then in the high teens.[/quote]
