I usually discuss "money" as you state it OP, during the phone interview so I guess I would be on your blacklist right away. Do not criticize someone who wants to discuss her rate immediately. You do not have to deal w/the unique issues us nannies do so please try not to be so judgmental here. There are many families out there who try to nickel + dime us nannies to death. They act like we are some used car on a lot and want to negotiate and get the lowest price possible. This happens more than you would believe. That is why as nannies, we must discuss rate upfront and make sure both sides are on the same page before we proceed w/anything else. I always discuss rate on the phone because where I live, CA, a gallon of gas here is currently $4.57/gal. and I don't want to waste my gas and time to drive across town and meet a family, only to find out they can only "afford" to pay a nanny $5/Hr. You may think I am making this up, but trust me, these families do exist. If you do not believe me, go online to Care.com and you will find many. So if your nanny actually brought up the rate AFTER she drove to your home, then I would say she extended YOU a courtesy. And considering the way you are talking about her on this forum, I totally believe that this lucky girl most definitely dodged a bullet w/you. No offense, but you have an attitude like you think you are better than her because you are a M.D. and she is just the lowly hired help.
Don't say no offense because that is offensive. You know nothing about me. You also know nothing about the situation. You assume that because I'm an MD I must be rolling in money and look down on everyone else. My family came from nothing and worked EXTREMELY hard to get what they have and sacrificed for me to be where I am. I'm well aware of the issues nannies have and I try to be very fair. If the nanny is great and worth it I will pay her whatever she is asking. And FYI we DID talk about rate over the phone before she came. She knew exactly what we were offering and came for the interview. Every nanny we interviewed spoke to the children, played with the baby etc first. THEN we talked more about rate etc. This one barely looked at the children and spent 30 minutes discussing rate. That is NOT a good nanny in my opinion and you cannot tell me that is normal. I've interviewed a lot of nannies over the years and through several moves and no one has ever turned me off so quickly and been SO focused on money ONLY. I'm willing to give the nanny the moon if she deserves it. She did not.
Ah..So now you are adding other aspects to this story to justify how right you are. Why do people always do this on online forums? I see this all the time. Anyway, I read your previous posts and you never mentioned the failure to connect issues in depth. You just focused on the fact that you were bothered by the fact that she discussed rate w/you first and that is what I responded to. Now all of a sudden you are saying you didn't like how she ignored your child and then talked about rate for a 1/2 hr and blah, blah, blah. If you would have mentioned all this in the beginning and presented the WHOLE version instead of a small portion, you could have gotten a more fair answer. Anyway, I am done discussing it. I don't believe you when you say you say you are well aware of what us nannies go through. There is a huge difference between an M.D. and a Nanny. I would say you are much closer to hitting your head on the glass ceiling than I am. You can respond if you want the last word. I am done reading this topic. Next!
+1 high five
