I can see the nanny's point clearly OP. What you are telling her is that she most likely will be able to get off by 5PM, but there will be times that she will have to stay until 6PM if you have an Emergency at work. This will be unlikely, but still a possibility. So this nanny will have to keep this extra hour open for you "just in case." This is very unfair of you to ask of her. You are asking her to hold this hour open for you, "just in case", but you will only pay her if you need her to use it for you. If not, you won't pay her for it even though she will have reserved it for you. That is extremely unfair and selfish of you to do and if I was her, I wouldn't want to work for someone like you who saw my time as less important as yours. She most definitely dodged a bullet with this one.
OP here. Did you actually read the whole thread? I'm not actually asking her hold that hour open for me. I said that I have family who lives 5 minutes away from me so if she can't stay the extra hour my family can come over and relieve her. So I'm not being unfair or selfish in anyway. She was looking for more money, that was all. Within 5 minutes of starting the interview all she wanted to talk about was money. I understand this is an important aspect of any job but maybe she could have gotten to know me and the children first. ALL she wanted to talk about was the hours and money and tell me all the "extra" things she could do (that I don't need her to do) for extra money of course. I'm the one who dodged the bullet there.
