I'm an MB and generally think nannies are undervalued...but $25-30 an hour seems really high to me. That is the hourly wage I made working as a bachelors-prepared ICU nurse. Granted, taking care of 5 kids is hard but not a ratio that seems crazy since the ratio for kids in a daycare is around that. It also doesn't sound like there many hours that the nanny would have all 5 kids at the same time.
Daycare children are all grouped together in the same range with the exact same schedule the ratio at any good center is no more than 4:1 max. Plus they normal have a floater teacher to help out in a class of 4:2, so that's three teachers to 8 children. You also don't have to do laundry, cook meals or any other typical household duties. You also get a full lunch break because there other teachers to take over for you. Plus no parental figure to override your Authority and someone available to cover a shift if an emergency happens. By the way there are plenty of nannies with multiple degrees or working towards their second degree. Just because your career field is different doesn't make our jobs less work or insignificant. Not all nannies are lazy or unproductive, just like not all nurses lack social skills and empathy. I volunteer on the oncology ward at children's hospital, I watch interactions between staff and Patients. Some of you need to change your line of work.
