OP here. You're insane. I KNOW babies fall over all of the time. My point is, if you know a baby isn't able to sit up yet on its own, why would you leave the baby in that position unattended?
The baby was not unattended. You said the nanny was in the room looking for some clothes. There is a big difference between being attentive and hovering. It sounds like you want the nanny to hover over the baby until she is sitting with 100% reliability. I agree that putting a pillow or something by the baby is reasonable, but then you'd have to surround the baby with pillows if falling is a big concern because they don't just fall backwards. What happens when your daughter starts pulling up on furniture, cruising, and walking? She will fall, many times, and she'll learn to be more steady through practice. No one likes to hear a baby cry, but it will happen as they make progress with their physical development. It will even happen as she gets older and tries out new things. Heck, about a month or two ago one of my 6-year-olds went through a period of about 3-4 weeks in which he fell off his bike (2-wheeler) nearly every time he rode it...and he's known how to ride it for over a year. He cried and bled a lot...knees, elbows, hands, chin, back, thighs, etc.... We just rolled with it and stocked up on band-aids b/c we didn't want to stop him from doing something important to his physical development and energy release. We joked about needing to put more padding on him, but common sense told us this was part of childhood. This was a normal baby fall, not negligence. If your daughter had fallen down the stairs or off a counter it would be bigger cause for concern...and even the stair thing happens to many kids.
