Do you think that filing for unemployment is fair if you aren't working on the books? How does that even work? I would imagine that you would also get in trouble for not paying taxes and it would be more of a hassle as opposed to just finding a new nanny position. I've never needed unemployment so I don't know how it works which I why I ask. [/quote]

Employers bear the burden of responsibility in this scenario, which is why it is always in their best interests to compensate their employees legally. There is nothing unfair about an unemployed person filing for unemployment.[/quote]

If you have not been getting paid on the books, then no money has been going into unemployment. You also have to report why the job ended and the employer will get a call to see if the person was fired for cause. In short there will be trouble all around.[/quote]
