Op here. Thanks for the feedback. It looks like most agree that we should still pay the full share. To those of you that said the nanny could be working for someone else, you clearly to did not understand my question. The nanny WILL be working for the other family and watching their 2 children while mine is in preschool. So, she will have a paid job! I was merely thinking, we could step in and pay more when the school closes or sick days, ect. Otherwise, we are just helping to pay for someone else child care. But, I still want to do the right thing by both our share family and the nanny, so we need to make a decision soon. Thanks again to everyone that responded.
No, I understood perfectly that she would be working those hours for the other family while your child was in preschool. I was saying if you were not paying her for those hours then she could find another family interested in a nanny-share situation in the AM while your child was at school. No disrespect. ;)
This is a good point. It would potentially save Family A money (they'd pay less in a share with Family C than they would if they had to pay the nanny for sole charge because Family B wasn't willing to "subsidize") and it would mean more income for Nanny. Plus I suppose Family B could look at it as them saving money by not having to pay for the nanny when their kids weren't present (assuming she wasn't comfortable taking a major pay cut during their absent hours).
