PP, you clearly have not ever been truly desperate. I work with families trapped in the cycle of poverty and none of them are self-pitying but all of them have to tolerate situations you and I wouldn't dream of. I'm glad you were able to move beyond your own limiting circumstances, you say you saved? So if this nanny can't find other work, only this illegally underpaid position, her options are take it and try to save or turn it down and go hungry? But you said she's equally to blame for agreeing to this rate, didn't you? Which is how our discussion began. I think you need to reevaluate your position to make it more consistent.

I do not know this nanny is desperate but I can safely assume she is because people well off enough to work for pleasure tend to understand minimum wage laws (and seek to abide by them).[/quote]
