OP I have an ADHD 8 year old. At this point, the school would have pointed something out especially if he is displaying the hyperactive part of this. There aren't really child therapies, the behavioral approaches are more for the parent or care giver. Medication and school setting accommodation is pretty much the only thing at this age. The meds are not 24 hours. They usually wear off after school so you would see the same behavior. You also only do medication if the ADHD is affecting their life..ie can't do schoolwork, disrupting the class, difficulty making friends. If I were you, I actually wouldn't say anything as you are the afternoon sitter (no offense, its just that the teachers have more observation time with the child then you do). You may want to ask about enrolling him in some after school activities and mention that he has enormous energy when he gets home. Physical activity and structure/routine is good for ADHD kids. He also may not have ADHD and just have a lot of pent up energy. Kids do not get much outdoor time or physical activity at school. My non-ADHD kid also needs to go outside and run or do sports after school. For homework, try breaking it up into smaller pieces. School work is pretty easy and boring for most kids in this area so not being able to focus on it may not be ADHD either.
