You chose to have the 2 year old sleep with you so you have absolutely no right to complain about that. If you felt there was a better way to handle the 2yr old's sleep issue you should have gone to your employers with solid information and suggestions AFTER asking if they wanted your input about the sleep issue. The salary issue is a problem though. Even if they were counting your meals and lodging as part of your compensation it still doesn't equal minimum wage. Plus they can't count meals and lodging towards minimum wage requirements without your written consent. (This is in a publication by CA's Industrial Welfare Commission.) Riverside County definitely pays less than LA County (I used to work in LA County and was on the higher end of the pay scale there), but there is no excuse to be paid less than minimum wage. Financially speaking you'd be better off working in a child care center and renting a cheap room from someone. You'd be making almost double working fewer hours...and have a legal record of your employment.
The parents of my charge act like its my job to be with him all threw the night, even though im not getting paid for it. I have family in georgia and ive been talking with them about moving back over there and they said they would help me find leads to new nanny jobs, or babysitting at the least. I'm very much considering it. I didnt realize how much i'm getting used until i sought for help online. I'm an older woman with a fairly good amount of experience and this is uncalled for. I'm going to try and talk to them but I doubt they will suddenly change their expectations.
