I previously had a work exchange that was stated to be 15 hours approx each week (with anything over being an hourly rate with money). No talk of banking hours at all and since I had never encountered that before, and had done several work exchanges, I didn't think to bring it up. 3 weeks into the position the MB had casually said to me, "you are keeping track of your hours, right?". Apparently they were keeping track and anything under 15 per week was to be banked and then used later. I didn't like this, and while it was only randomly that she would ask me to stay late one night or do a babysitting evening on the weekend, she would often only use 12 hours each week. This left me with sometime 50 hours being owed! I owed some at Christmas and did a few days with longer hours and babysitting and got it down to just a few, but then she would not need me for a random day, or something and 2 months later I would be back at 40 hours owed again. The living situation wasn't that great to put up with that, so I found something else instead. I had a paying job that was willing to change me to an exchange and was going to be great hours (no banking hours!) and so I stayed in the "banking hours" place for a couple more months to save up money and then moved in to my other job. I am now very happy, have other paying positions and no longer worry about banking hours ever again. I would seriously say no to what seemed like the greatest position EVER if it meant having to deal with that again.[/quote]
