If you absolutely can't afford an emergency back-up nanny through an agency (and that is expensive) then make sure you do NOT let on that you'll be letting her go until the day comes to do it. Have DH there, ask for the keys back, and send her (nicely) on her way. You don't need to tell the 3yo any stories about her being sick in the head, but you SHOULD tell her not to go with the nanny as she doesn't work for you anymore. And if you don't already have a code work for pick-ups (that is, if someone comes to school and tells your daughter "Mommy sent me to come get you" they should also have a codeword - pet name, favorite color, something easy for your DD to remember - that they can say to let her know they can be trusted) institute one now and make it absolutely clear that unless someone know it, she is to stay with her teacher... just so there is no way your ex-nanny would be able to convince her to come with her.[/quote]
