I am a nanny and very often my bosses will have me come into work even if they don't have to go into the office. They are great parents and they love to spend time with their child but sometimes it is just hard to be productive and get things done with a one year old running around. Sometimes they work from home, run errands, do things around the house, etc. They are never just home watching TV or doing something completely unimportant. Yes, sometimes I wish they would give me the day off when I know they are going to be home, but at the same time I understand why they need me to come in.
+1 My MB rarely does anything for herself so on the really rare occasions she has me work on a day she has taken off I am happy to do so. She needs time to get things done. It doesn't even bother me if she schedules a massage on those rare days because she rarely treats herself to things like that. I will admit that the days DB takes off or "works" from home are a bit irritating as he's really just surfing online and watching tv. However I also realize that having him in charge of the kids for an entire day would likely end in disaster so it's better for all involved if I still work a normal shift when DB is home. He's a great father, but all day would put him over the edge if one of the kids was having a rough day (not uncommon around here).
