I don't think kids are always closer to mom vs dad.  It depends on the ages of the kids and their personalities.  IMO infants and toddlers will be attached to the one who spends the most time with them (quality or not).  When they get a bit older, its about quality of time with each other.  Now that my kids are older, they play by themselves and with other kids more often.  I have a really good nanny but she doesn't spend as much time talking to my kids--about school, activities, likes/dislikes, fears, etc.  E.g., my son loves football and he learned that from dad.... Its his favorite topic for books, clothes, etc.  My 4 yr old love both of us but is "closer" to me than our nanny despite spending much more time with her over the past 3 yrs.[/quote]
