You're correct. Having a light on in the dark is a safety issue.

Finally! We have all agreed OP should buy a flashlight so she always has the safety of a light in the dark.... WHY DID IT TAKE 100 POSTS to get to this point? Do you just like to argue?

Huh? Who is this "we have all" you speak of? I see many, many posts saying that flashlights are just one more thing to carry and that a porch light should be left on for nannies. Why is this so hard for you to understand?

Sure we have. Nanny needs to be a responsible adult and buy a flashlight. If nanny needs two bags of junk that she can't manage to carry them in one hand, nanny needs a cart. If nanny is too afraid of the dark (although I bet she has no problem going out at night socially) she needs a new job. What she doesn't need is to whine and make her employers take care of her like another child.[/quote]

If things are so dangerous for nanny then why not also ask the family to leave the door slightly ajar for her when she arrives each morning so she doesn't have to fumble with her keys (remember OP is miss uncoordinated fumbly hands) and she can just run in and drop her bags and lock the door. That plus the light seems like the perfect solution.[/quote]
