I have been working as an in-home Nanny for the past fifteen years. I have many families that I utilize as references (10+), an Associate Degree (not in Child Development) and I am CPR/First Aid certified (I am always current on these!) I was arrested on a Domestic Violence charge 21 yrs. ago, spent a night in jail but was never charged for it and have maintained a perfect criminal record since. I also have a perfect driving record. Well my current family (18 mo./3YO) is paying me $18/Hr. The area I live in (SoCal) has a typical starting rate of $22/Hr. I want to find a new position but am afraid this arrest from two decades ago may negatively affect my chances. I have been told that arrests do not show up on b/g checks > only convictions - sometimes misdemeanors but always felonies. Plus one arrest 21 yrs. ago may not be a detriment. I hate working for such a low wage yet am not sure if I could get a better wage w/this arrest in my past. For the record, it has not shown up on previous b/g checks but I haven’t had one in about 12 yrs. and was recently told that it might show up w/newer b/g checks. What should I do?? TIA.
