When I see parents offer the line "but you'll usually get off before then!" I roll my eyes, because I don't think it actually works out like that very often.

I also think requiring paid overtime is actually a good function for working parents, because it requires them to prioritize their workday and focus on time management.

I am sorry if I sound like a downer.  But I think if you can match your expectations on start and stop times, you (and they) will be happier.  Best of luck to you!
