So I am a former nanny who has two kids ages 4 and 8. There is a family in my immediate neighborhood which is a small townhouse community. They have a baby who will be 6 weeks when I start. They only need care part time I.e 10 hours a week. Right now a grandparent is staying with them and this person will need a break when her daughter (mom boss) goes back to work in person. Dad works from home. The family are south Asian immigrants and I happen to have a husband who is also south Asian but from a different country than them. It seems perfect because I am busy enough with my own kids. I was looking for a way to make extra money and was surprised to find this opportunity so quickly. We met just a few days after I joined a childcare website. Even though my husband is from a similar culture his family doesn’t come here for long visits. We always go to his country. I’m a little nervous things could come up that may make me uncomfortable with the grandparents. Any advice would be appreciated. I will not be bringing my own child to work with me but they are fine if I take walks with the baby and my kids around our neighborhood. Our neighborhood is very small … there are only 50 or so houses and it’s kind of like a little island because we can’t walk to other communities. I am no longer local to the DC area. For my rate I asked for $16. Since it’s only 10 hours a week I doubt we will take taxes out. I have another PT job that’s not nannying and I pay taxes with that job. Since DH makes a lot more than me we are taxed at 22 percent for my income. It’s really sucks so I would be okay with cash since it’s very partime.
