I am in my early twenties and just moved to the US from Ukraine. I am starting a new job with a family with a 1 year old. I am guaranteed 45 hours a week at 9 hours a day. However the 9 hours can be any time between 7am and 10pm. Is that normal, what are my choices Any advice would be really helpful! Thanks
No. It isn't normal. They are screwing you and you need to address the situation now. You should have set hours AND. you must be paid overtime for ALL hours over 40. Overtime is 1.5 times you hourly rate, if you are osifnd $20/hr then you will be paid $30/hr for hours over 40 hours worked per week. This is Federal law. No Also, hours cannot be banked. This means that if the only have you work 30 hours one week, they cannot have you work 50 hours the next week at regular pay. I hope that you have someone here who can help you and keep employers from taking advantage of you. Good luck.
