14th Street NW a bit of a walk from Columbia Heights Metro, there is a park called Upshur. It is on Upshur Street NW. There is a picnic shade area and a padded playground. i believe up the hill there is a grassy field as well. Club house with bathrooms too.

One street over on 16th Street, there is Rock Creek Park Playground (idk thats the name but behind it, is where Rockcreek forest trail begins). You have to walk across the huge track field to get to the playground which has plenty of shade & trees. Def need bug spray in the summer. There's a tennis stadium too.

Kalorama Park on Kalorama Rd NW & 19th Street NW shouldnt be too far and its amazing. There is a huge grassy area with a hill, lots of options for shade and some picnic tables. There is also a baby/toddler playground and another for older kids and they are separate with padding. There are benches to sit as well with trees for shade and a nice grassy area with a huge tree in the middle where you can sit and have a picnic. I took my NK there often this spring when she was just between 2 and 6 months and she enjoyed sitting on her donut pillow looking around at all the birds, dogs, butterflies and people walking by <3

There is another park off I believe 21st Street towards the embassy residences in Kalorama. its called Mitchel Park. Plenty of shade, separate play ground sets, a labyrinth, a grassy field and lots of trees & benches. They also have a little club house with bathrooms, water fountains and a community garden.
