I have been a full-time Nanny since the beginning of the year to an adorable 1.5 year old little boy who I just adore immensely. My issue has nothing at all to do with him - I have an issue with his parents. Okay so within the last month, their personal checks are not being deposited properly at our bank. I say “our” because we both bank at the same bank. For instance, when I go to the ATM to deposit their checks, after inserting & scanning the check the screen tells me that the bank is unable to complete my deposit transaction at this time and that my check will be returned right back to me which it does. My guess is that they do not have sufficient funds in their account which is why after being scanned at the ATM > the ATM is unable to “complete” the transaction for me. But I could be wrong since all the other families that paid me via personal check have always had their checks deposited, no problem. So while I am now (still!) out for a week’s pay, my boss also didn’t pay me for last week because she claimed that she misplaced her checkbook + didn’t have any cash on hand. So this week I am still out two weeks of pay and I got so angry about it that I texted her that in good faith, I could not continue watching her son until I was paid what is currently owed to me = two weeks of pay. Well she responded back that she HAS the money and that she has just been a little distracted due to the holidays!?? That she found her checkbook and would write me out a check for three weeks of pay this Friday. But I am just fed up that she is expecting me to continue working while not being paid for two weeks. She said that it is very unprofessional for a Nanny to instantly quit on the spot, and that I was putting her and her husband out big time leaving them high and dry w/out any childcare. She said her son loves me but if things didn’t work out then she could not in good faith give me a reference for any future jobs. My Sister agreed that it will be very unprofessional to simply quit without substantial notice (at minimum two weeks) and that if I refused to work the remaining days this week, then not only will I have burned a viable bridge but she might not even pay me what she owes me at this point. I however feel that since it is the holidays, she likely needs extra $$ and is just trying to get out of paying me. And I am just not okay with going to work where I am not being paid properly. Or on time. Sorry so long. What should I do now?
