We unfortunately had to go through a rematch, too. It really sucks, but sometimes it has to happen. The two weeks when the rematch is happening can be really awkward and stressful, but it gets better. Every agency is different, but for us, we sat our AP down and explained that we were going to do the rematch. We had had prior talks with her, so this was not a 100% surprise, but there still were tears and we all felt bad about it, even though it was the right thing for my family. The next morning, the LCC came over and made everything official (some people feel more comfortable telling the AP with the LCC there). During the meeting, you agree on the final stipend payment, discuss how many vacation days were used, whether the education stipend was paid. Our agency made us pay the AP for unused vacation days. The AP then has 2 weeks to find a new family or she will have to go home. Generally, they stay with you for the 2 weeks (could be shorter if they find a new family quickly). As PP said, they could stay with a friend or the LCC if things are really bad between you guys - this is something to discuss with LCC if you are considering it, that option may cost you a fee - I want to say about $50/day. If they stay with you, you can decide whether or not to have them keep working (we decided not because we had other child care options and I didn’t want my kids to have to deal with any drama). After the two weeks (or possibly sooner), they pack up and go join their new family - generally it is up to the new family and the AP to work out transportation details for that. If they don’t find a new family, then they have to go back home, which the agency usually won’t pay for. Good luck!
