Hello members, If my nanny makes $26 per hour in our share how much should I pay her when she works overtime for just my family? Will she still be paid overtime ($26 times 1.5) or is it less? Do you pay your nanny by the minute? I mean by that if I am 15 minutes late or I specifically ask her to start 15 minutes earlier than normal, how should I pay her? I am sorry if my questions sounds dumb. My husband and I are very new to this and do not want to be unfair to the nanny we want to hire for our share. The other family also doesn’t have a clue on how to deal with those individual requests.
You contract needs to address this. If the share rate is $26/hour, the single family rate is likely to be $21-23/hour. Yes, you need to pay overtime if over 40 for the week. However, it could be on the single family rate if those hours are over but the share hours are at or under 40. Yes, you need to pay in 5, 10, 15 or 30 minute increments. Depends on each family and nanny as to what they negotiate. Since you round UP, most families prefer smaller increments. Asking the nanny to come in late and stay late without changing pay may be okay with some nannies, but it isn’t with others. For most nannies, the schedule is set (guaranteed pay), and she gets the same, even if you ask her to come in late. She would get extra pay if asked to stay late. This is most common with share nannies, since the share rate is based on the same schedule for both families.
