2 months (3 at most) before the ideal start date. This gives enough time to weed through the 1000 nannies that don’t read your post and don’t fit the criteria, phone interview, in-person, references, background check and trial period.
Thanks for a realistic answer! Very much appreciated :)
That's interesting - OP you already knew what you wanted to hear so why ask for feedback? Because there is no 'correct' response here - it is all relative based on the individual situation and need. For some families it may work best to advertise, interview, weed through candidates and make a selection while expecting and for others, waiting until they've met their little one works best. Also how much maternity leave one has and whether you are looking at a nanny share or not.
I didn't know if I should be looking 2 weeks to 2 months before hiring, but I guessed it was near that timeframe as from posts it seems people are available in a month out or so. I just was wondering what the common timeframe was so I could know when exactly I need to start seriously looking. I don't know how much notice nannies are typically given prior to ending a job and searching for a next one. Is it like an office job with 2 weeks notice or is it typically a bit further out to allow the nanny time to find other employment? I honestly don't know but if going off an office-type environment then I should be looking pretty close to when I want to hire someone; however, this employment area is new to me so might be different thus my question.
