I was an au pair several years ago and the first family I had got kicked out. They were in PA just outside Philadelphia. 3 kids 6,8, and 13 and the Mom was pregnant. I was only there for 3 weeks before I requested to switch. I worked every Saturday and only had Sunday off. On Mon morning all their dishes and pots and pans were in the sink from Sunday for me to clean. I did everyones laundry and they had a 3rd car but never took me out driving in it once. I was 18 and had to pick up all the kids clothes off the floor, make the kids beds, including the 13yo, it was demeaning to say the least. I left and came to a family in DC. About a month later I get a call from my LLC in PA because the 2nd au pair quit and they were investigating the family. They did end up kicking the family out of the program.
My au pair is friend with an Ap in her second year. She stayed the whole year with a family - who never gave her the 1.5 day off on weekend - who made her take off when their twins were taking a nap and there was no one else at home (so she could not leave the house but she was supposedly off, so she was working 12+hours/days) - both parents would sometimes leave early for work before the beginning of her shift forcing her start earlier than her official start time She stayed with them the whole year because she was too scared to rematch because her English was really bad. The Family is still hosting because I don’t think ap ever officially complained. The Family is in the DC area so they might be reading this, if you are, F you! Stop exploiting APs. Not cool!
