It's a numbers game. Many of them come here as APs, but they are shopping for a US passport or simply jump.
This. Nothing mysterious. Its basic statistics. If too many are getting married or jumping their Visa, the program closes for them. Plus who really wants an AP that is husband shopping. State department is doing everyone a favor.
What a ridiculous thing to say. We have hosted 4 Thai au pairs and none were “husband shopping”. (Mostly saving money and trying to improve their English to help family businesses at home). So grossly racist.
But given the track record of different nationalities and the lack of resources to keep on top of all the visa jumpers, the State department has to have some response. Notwithstanding your own experience, it is basing the decisions on recent history. No foreign citizen has a presumptive right to enter the US.
