OP, I have a Master’s too and you need to get over yourself. I felt like you once. I worked hard to get my Masters in SW and made nothing. I had to apply for food stamps because I was making $11 an hour for 50-60 hours a week. I started nannying and made twice that with better benefits. But no one would guess I’m as educated as most of my employers. Nannying are seen as low-skill and low-educated field. While, that’s not actually true that’s the way the white collar workers view it. You have to get use to being spoken down to, and assumed dumb. Also realize that the nanny down the street with the GED. You aren’t necessarily smarter. She’s making as much as you without the student debt.
Not OP, but I do command a much higher wage because of my degree. If you don't, PP, you should look for a new job. Even a college degree in any major will command a higher rate.
A higher rate than YOU would have earned without it. If the GED nanny down the block has a decade of full time nanny experience with glowing references and dozens of relevant classes and certifications, she will often be worth just as much as the newcomer who spent the last decade taking classes, even if the classes are child-related. So yes, some of us poor rubes are making just as much as you are.
